"You know Myatt - There are few paintings that imprint themselves so permanently in our mind as does a photograph such as this one does. I have been thinking about that a lot lately - that thing about an image that seems to stay with me not in the familiar way as does the Mona Lisa or other wonderful Renaissance art (or later for that matter) - these are familiar because we see them over and over. But some photographs one only needs to see once and they take a permanent stance in our conciousness. Some of Eugene Smith's images have that place in my heart and in my head - but it is not the subject alone and never the technical virtuosity, but the magic. This photo has it, Myatt. Thank you for sending it. -Roz"
